IRON CROW THEATRE’S BOOTYCANDY BECOMES OFFICIAL SHOW
OF BALTIMORE PRIDE!

HISTORIC AND AWARD-WINNING 16/17 SEASON OF DARK PLAY CONCLUDES

BALTIMORE, Maryland - June 6, 2017: Iron Crow Theatre is set to complete it’s historic, and award-winning, 16/17 season of Dark Play with Robert O'Hara's, sexy, subversive and semi- autobiographical dark comedy, BootyCandy. It's the story of Sutter, a young gay black man on an outrageous journey that takes him from his childhood home through churches, dive bars, motel rooms and even nursing homes. O'Hara weaves together scenes, sermons, sketches and daring meta-theatrics to create a hysterically funny look at the experience of being a homosexual in the black community. This uproarious satire, which New York Magazine called "insanely entertaining and completely engaging," veers wildly from absurdity to naturalism as Sutter comes to terms with his sexuality. As the pieces of his surreal puzzle come together, the scenes of Sutter's life paint an audacious and utterly fearless portrait of the queer black experience.

“BootyCandy is unapologetically introspective and aggressive, similar to the world we navigate today,” says Brandon Rashad Butts, the performance’s director. “Robert’s ability to get us to run head on into the taboo topics of sexuality, anatomy, racial prejudices, homophobia and more is what makes this play, in my eyes, an American classic.”

Artistic Director and CEO, Sean Elias, added, “Making its regional debut straight from Playwrights Horizon’s to Iron Crow Theatre, BootyCandy is poised to be our most hilarious, outrageous, and celebratory piece to date. As the official show of Baltimore Pride, there isn’t a show on the boards in this city that is more of a party, more timely, more outrageous, and more relevant than this one!”
