CITY PAPER NAMES IRON CROW THEATRE BEST QUEER THEATRE
Iron Crow Theatre is inaugural award recipient.
BALTIMORE, Maryland - September 19, 2015: Iron Crow Theatre has been named Baltimore’s Best Queer Theatre during the 2015 Best of Baltimore Awards presented by Baltimore City Paper. This is the first time this award has been given and Iron Crow Theatre is the award’s inaugural recipient.
"I couldn't be more humbled that Iron Crow Theatre has been recognized as one of Baltimore's best theater companies. While this award belongs to every "Crow" from designer to actor to administrator, I would like to pay special tribute to our Founding Artistic Director Steven J. Satta - for it was under his leadership this past year that this award was truly won." Elias comments.
Iron Crow Theatre ended its 2014-2015 season as the most successful in its history.
"Iron Crow is the city’s only queer theater company. But what does that mean? It means amplifying the voices of LGBTQ actors and playwrights, yes, but it also means queer in the sense of pushing things beyond the limits of normal, producing visions that are off-kilter, that force audiences to see in new ways, to ask new questions about what it means to watch a show." City Paper states.
Iron Crow Theatre will not be producing this season and is instead focusing on expanding its staffing, funding and offerings under the vision of newly appointed Artistic Director and CEO Sean Elias, formerly Executive Director. Iron Crow Theatre will also participate in a collaboration project with Cohesion Theatre Company titled, The Trans Voices Workshop Series.
IRON CROW THEATRE is the theatre of mischief and subversion, a queer theatre celebrating the renegade and the unorthodox, in all of us, reflecting the diverse stories of our community and the world in which we live. We produce and create professional new work, re-imagine well- known stories, and seek out innovative scripts. Our work ignites conversation and all voices are welcome.
